Serres (Greece) April 24th 2018 / MAPS final conference
The presence of former military assets, standing as derelict spaces within the urban fabric, is a matter that many European cities have to deal with. Our URBACT network – MAPS, which stands for Military Assets as Public Spaces – has been focusing on the mechanisms that can transform a potential problem in an inspiring source of innovation, driving change as an engine and incubator for new forms of urbanity.
Since September 2015, the nine partner cities involved in our project have been studying strategies for the re-use of their former military assets, working together to develop common knowledge, experiences and good practices to share in this field, in the realms of the URBACT III programme.
The aim of our final conference is to present and discuss the results and lessons learnt within our network, both from a local and international perspective, confronting ourselves with a wider audience including representatives from the European Union, the URBACT Secretariat and our EU partners.
The event will take place in Serres (Greece), during a two-day workshop: save the dates for April 24th and 25th
Day 1 / 24th April / Our idea is to develop an interactive Open Day for the dissemination of the project results, giving us the opportunity to debate with urban professionals and initiators, decision makers and citizens. We are planning an intensive workshop, aimed at sharing our results with large audiences and engaging them in practical activities. The registration is open! Use the button below to register!
Day 2 / 25th April / Our idea is to focus on the identification of the future activities of the network (out of the URBACT safe place) and confront ourselves with the following issues: what did we learn? How have our skills grown? How we should proceed to stay in touch? How can we share the implementation of the projects for our areas?
